Ploughshare side table

Sculptural yet grounded in function, the Ploughshare side table is crafted from solid fumed cherry, a wood prized for its rich color and pronounced grain. The fuming process deepens these natural qualities, lending the piece an aged, earthen tone that nods to the agricultural histories evoked by its name: the ploughshare. The cabinet’s hand-carved, curtain-faced doors introduce a sense of movement and softness, their undulating surfaces resembling the folds of draped fabric. This treatment offers a visual counterpoint to the table’s sturdy form and anchors the piece in both craftsmanship and gesture.

Opening the doors reveals a symbolic interior: drawers embossed with the constellation Ursa Major.  At its center, the Plough asterism is rendered in seven hand-hammered brass demi-knobs, each subtly unique and arranged to mirror the iconic star pattern. The brass glints against the dark cherry like stars in the night sky, linking earthbound labor with cosmic orientation.
